What is the Walton County Citizen Corps Council, Inc.?
The Walton County Citizen Corps Council is a recognized Citizen Corps Council under the federal Citizen Corps program. "The mission of Citizen Corps is to harness the power of every individual through education, training, and volunteer service to make communities safer, stronger, and better prepared to respond to the threats of terrorism, crime, public health issues, and disasters of all kinds." This program falls under the Federal Emergency Management Agency and links for the program can be found at ready.gov.
The Walton County Citizen Corps Council sponsors two volunteer programs: The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) and the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC). In addition, it is promoting the National Weather Service's SKYWARN® program in Walton County. The Walton County Amateur Radio Emergency Service is represented on the Council and is a partner organization.
It is recommended that all those who are part of CERT and MRC register with the Walton County Citizen Alert Notification System administered by Everbridge. The Council is working with the administrators of the system to allow alerting of various CERT and MRC activities, including potential activations.
If interested in participating in either of these programs, please visit the pages for the program of interest. A new CERT class is being formed to begin September 2017.
